A roadmap for an energy transition adapted to Gabon

Facing the challenges linked to Gabon's dependence on fossil fuels, Brainforest brought together representatives of public administrations, companies, civil society organisations and local communities in Libreville on 9 July 2026.

The workshop is part of a project launched in November 2025:

• Diagnosis of national energy policy
• Capacity building
• Experience-sharing mission to Senegal

Project lead Erika Oyane recalled the objectives: to propose a consensual roadmap and lay the foundations for an advocacy committee responsible for relaying the process to authorities and the general public.

Eight areas of work

Participants worked on eight priority areas:

1. Governance
2. Consultation framework
3. Renewable energy
4. Private investment
5. Capacity building
6. Just transition
7. Financing mechanisms
8. Monitoring and evaluation

The proposals formulated will serve as the basis for developing a national roadmap.
